Howard holds an honorary post at the Royal London Hospital where he offers specialist consultation in Paediatric Neuropsychology, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and neuropsychological assessment. Howard has considerable experience of the NHS, having previously been responsible for delivering highly specialised paediatric input to the Royal London Hospital children's services, as well as offering specialist child neuropsychological consultation services for clinicians working in the London boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Hackney and Newham.
Further to his doctoral research on ‘Resilience to PTSD in Emergency Workers', Howard provided consultation to the London Helicopter Emergency Service and London Underground following the July 2005 London bombings, as well as offering specialist educative support and consultation to local Mental Health services.
Howard is a member of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office's / British Red Cross Emergency Psychosocial Support Team, responding to international disasters involving British citizens, with previous deployments to Portugal and Zimbabwe. Howard also sits on the Clinical Advisory Group for the National Trauma Networks, advising on policy and service provision for frontline trauma services.
Howard is committed to delivering regular input and dissemination of skills at national conferences, through publications, and teaching, including providing specialist Paediatric Neuropsychology and Development teaching to Doctoral Clinical Psychology courses at the University of East London (UEL), Royal Holloway University of London, Salomons Centre for Applied Psychology (Canterbury Christ Church University), and the University of Surrey. Howard also contributes to the UCL MSc Clinical and Applied Paediatric Neuropsychology Training Programme at the Institute of Child Health.
Howard has appeared on the BBC 10 O'clock News consulting on Psychological aspects of terrorism, and Channel 4 programming on Child Development and education. He is also regularly a Consulting Psychologist on a number of documentaries and health education programmes in production for the BBC, Channel 4, ITV and Sky.
As well as holding a clinical caseload, as a director of Recolo, Howard holds senior clinical, supervisory and management roles. He has co-authored an essential reader on childhood brain injury intervention - Neuropsychological Rehabilitation of Childhood Brain Injury with his co-directors of Recolo.
